John King:
I want to take a moment to say a few words about a long term member of the community who unfortunately passed away this past weekend.
John King was a fine man, a great neighbor, and a true contributor to Saddlebrooke.  He took a deep interest in the workings of the community as exhibited by his, or Lisa’s, attendance at virtually all Village and open POA meetings.
John served for 10 years in the Highlandville Volunteer Fire Department in a variety of roles from Fireman to Chief.  He was the driving force in staffing the station on Brookeside Drive with Saddlebrooke and nearby residents to provide the best possible service for Saddlebrooke and the surrounding areas.
John was always willing to assist with community projects and to provide help to his neighbors with personal projects.  John assisted the POA with remodel projects of this building, was the go to guy for the Village Board of Trustees in working with American Water to ensure that the fire hydrants in the Village were properly maintained. I know he helped me with both advice and hands on help with a couple of projects around my house.
John told me early in 2017 that he and Lisa’s long term plan was to live in Saddlebrooke about 10 years and then to move to a smaller property in Springfield.  He retired from the fire department last year and he and Lisa did purchase a place in Springfield late last year.  As fate would have it, they were in their house a very short time before John found out about the cancer that eventually took him.
John was the type of gentleman who makes Saddlebrooke a fine place to live and an example of the best meaning of the term “Mover and Shaker” in a Community.  John will be sorely missed and well-remembered.
